In August of 2011, we traveled to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for Brynn’s brother’s wedding.
We posted their wedding pictures a while back, and now here are the rest of the pictures that aren’t wedding related.
Our first gas station stop on the way to Vancouver!

the cure for our boredom on the way there – games on our cell phones

our hotel in Vancouver

on the plane the next morning to Montreal

our arrival in Montreal

the lights of Montreal airport are French and bright

so, of course we had to take obligatory tourist pictures
although, Nathan doesn’t seem to like the French.. or the lights

trying to find the Slumber Queen of benches
Nathan thinks this one is alright, but we are not totally satisfied

Brynn being lurky..

success?

when sleep didn’t come, Brynn did what she knows best to ease her tired mind.. take random pictures!

the view from our stone-cold bed

waiting for the plane after a sleepless night.. is Nathan happy, or is he sad?

FINALLY! Landed in Punta Cana.. a day and a half later

Nathan realizing he’s too hairy for this kind of heat

our flights were all supposed to arrive within half an hour of each other
however, we had to wait for family and friends due to hurricane weather around the Eastern Seaboard

finally Drew and Carina arrive
and wait we did some more

on our way to the resort from the airport
drivers in Punta Cana are the scariest!

the hotel’s cool looking lobby and theatre room

before we even got our suitcases, Carina was in the pool.. in her underwear!

and Drew had a beer nap

the poolside view, as we wait for our luggage to be delivered to our rooms

complete with lurky-turkey Jim

The view from our balcony

next, we hit the beach!
so pretty!

Joe got suckered into getting his picture taken with a snake
they tried to make him pay for one, but he knew Brynn sneakily took one too

then it was time for free resort drinks
Brynn is double fisting, of course

tour around the resort time:
this is the courtyard where they had midnight movies and the best bar on site!

this is the gazebo where all the weddings happen

these odd statues were all over the grounds

the upper lobby

a pond full of koi fish

rescue boats for the beach

and an Olympics sign that was on the beach the whole week we were there

these cool huts were everywhere

there was even a casino!

beach day numero dos

bachelor/bachelorette party time:

the guys smoked cigars,

while the girls did some last-minute wedding planning

then it was off to the disco

Sammy Sossa’s, our drink of choice

of course Joe had to put on a show

[INTERMISSION: Drew and Carina's wedding day ]
dune buggy tour day
(taken on the AE-1 with Kodak Porta 160)

first stop: a little coffee brewery with the best coffee and “chocolate” in the world

next stop: tiniest, ghetto market with the best sign ever
this is where we also went cave diving, but camera and water don’t mix, so there aren’t any pictures :(

last stop on the tour was a beautiful beach with big, fun waves!
it was a refreshing end to the dirty, hot tour!

Michael Jackson tribute night in the theatre, put on by the hotel entertainment staff

beach day thrice
the resort offered catamarans for the guests to use, so we took them out for some awesome Caribbean sailing!

some of us read for a while

some of us built mini sand castles

and some of us took random beach pictures

date night for Nathan and Brynn

hey, we were in the Dominican, might as well spend some more time on the beach!

planning a night out

we decided on the Sea Side Grill for dinner

we ran into these pretty flamingos on the way back to our rooms

time for some back story: Nathan is a grown man with an irrational fear of the ocean
somehow though, Paige and Daneen managed to coax him in this day.. just to say he conquered it, even if it was only for a second

and conquered it, he did

momentarily..

num nums on the beach

night market!

Brynn’s evening guest

back in Montreal on our way back – this time we actually got to stay in a hotel
it was epic

the view from our room

sadly, that is all for now
until next time,
